The Galaxy Note series has been a hugely successful series of devices, with with huge displays, amazing battery life, S Pen Apps, and more! While the size of the device scares some people, there are just as many that can’t imagine going back to a tiny screen. Recently released, the Note 3 gives a whole new reason for phablet envy!
The main thing to call out about the difference between the last Note and this one is the larger 1080p display, up from the 720p display on the Note 2. The Note 3 also comes standard with a Snapdragon 800 processor and whopping 3GB of RAM. There are a few other changes worth noting, so lets look as some of the hardware.
When it comes to specs, its a powerhouse. It has a 5.7″ 1080p HD Super AMOLED display, a Snapdragon 800 chipset, 3GB of RAM, a 13MP back-facing camera (records video at 4K), 2MP front-facing camera, 3,200mAh battery, full stylus S Pen functionality, NFC, 16GB and 32GB storage options, runs Android 4.3 with a more-than-likely quick bump to Android 4.4 once it’s released, and a USB 3.0 port, all in a single device.
How about that display!
The Note 3 features a 1080p HD Super AMOLED display (386ppi) that is bright, full of color, and lets you see the tiniest of details. Overall, this display has incredible viewing angles, impressive brightness, and great color reproduction.
Oh, And that camera!
The Note 3 has a 13MP sensor with anti-shake technology that Samsung calls “Smart Stabilization.” The optical stabilization makes for a much clearer picture when on the move! Not only is the camera great but this device is capable of shooting 4K video! (Who doesn’t want commercial quality video?)
The camera comes with multiple filters, burst mode, face detection software, picture-in-picture video and stills, the ability to take stills while recording video, and manual settings (ISO, white balance, and exposure) to satisfy any camera enthusiast.
What’s the battery like you ask?
The Note 3 comes with a huge 3,200mAh battery! Whoa! For a heavy user, I put this device through the ringer and still had battery left at the end of the day. But just in case it’s always good to carry around a battery pack. My favorite is the 9,000 mAh pack from Samsung. (Fully charged it can charge the Note 3 almost 3 times! Or Twice for you and one for a friend 😉 )
S Pen software
If you love the S Pen, you will love the apps such as S Note, Scrapbooker, and especially Pen Window. With Pen Window you can draw windows on your homescreen while in any other app, and then open additional applications inside of that window. For example, I can draw a box while in Chome (say we are looking at a recipe in the grocery store and I’m shopping for ingredients) and open up the calculator. This allows me to both see my Chome page and use the calculator at the same time. (This is too cool)
Overall I am really excited about this device and expect it to be a huge hit. You can’t touch some of the features the Note 3 has, and for screen lovers out there you have found your soul mate. 😉
