Days of Future Past

The film will be based on the comic book storyline “Days of Future Past,” which ran in Uncanny X-Men #141 and 142 back in 1981 during Chris Claremont and John Byrne’s run and introduced the idea of an alternate future for Marvel’s mutants that grew out of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants killing an important senator, leading to a future where all mutants are hunted by Sentinels.

Hands On Review: HTC One M8

Standard

HTC One M8“The all new HTC One® one-ups its predecessor, from its premium design and 5-inch Full HD display to its Duo Camera with UltraPixel, which lets you add 3D-style depth and change focus after snapping a photo. With dual front speakers and enhanced HTC BoomSound™, you’ll experience true-to-life sound for all your favorite media.”

It’s a massive market out there for the Android loving community, but what about if you are looking for a hight end device? Well, look no further as the HTC One M8 may be the phone for you.

First and foremost you want to admire the solid hunk of unibody aluminum that makes you want to gawk and awe. The brushed metal finish (pictured to the left), is the perfect tie to the military reference of the M8.

The HTC One M8 isn’t going to win prizes for its weight (5.6 oz), but it’s weight is so close to its lightweight competitors that its certainly able to compete in that realm. Plus, with the HTC One M8 you get a metal casing versus a plastic one. SO WORTH IT.

HTC has stepped up its game on the screen, making the M8 a full 5 inch, compared to the 4.7 inch on the last HTC One. Not only did it step up the screen but HTC has labeled its two front facing speakers “BoomSound,” which sound  fuller even better that the last model (which was already pretty great).

Let’s take a look at a couple of the new features! First up, I like Motion Launch. Motion Launch allows you to answer an incoming call easier than ever by simply  lifting the phone to your ear without even having to unlock the device. Motion Launch will also let you launch you camera even quicker by simply putting the phone in the landscape position and touching the volume button! (Every second counts when it come to taking the quick shot!)

Second, the HTC One M8 is also utilizing some of its new sensors to make quick gesture actions. These sensors give you a few new features: Knocking on the screen to turn on, swiping down to activate voice control, and swipe up to go to the home screen.

HTC One M8 Now to my favorite part of the HTC One M8, the cameras!

While all the other guys are talking about “megapixels”, HTC is talking about “UltraPixels”. The biggest advantage the UltraPixel camera has is how well it captures shots in low light conditions. Pictures taken without a flash always come out brighter and clearer that the competitions devices. On top of having an UtraPixel camera, the HTC One M8 features a second rear camera which helps to sense depth, allowing you to do multiple trick with the images that the UltraPixel camera takes. HTC is using UFocus feature to truly get the most out of the depth in your picture but allowing you to simulate a blurred background like you would get from a DLSR camera. One advantage the m8 has over the DLSR guys is that you can make this change AFTER the pic is taken in editing and even lets you save various versions of the same picture. HTC has also improved the front-facing camera to a full 5 MP. If you are a “selfie master” you will love the fact the front-facing pictures can also be fixed in post capture as well. You can apply anti-shine, eye brightening, smoothing and more to you picture!

Overall I think the HTC One M8 is a powerhouse. It has tons of other noteworthy specs to praise, which if you want all the detailed specs, you can see here.

The HTC One (M8) is available now for $199.99 on a two year contract or $599.99 full retail.

Disclosure:

I received the HTC One M8 from Verizon Wireless for review purposes. I received no compensation for this post. All opinions are my own.

Edge of Tomorrow

Oscar® nominee Tom Cruise (the “Mission: Impossible” films, “Collateral,” “Jerry Maguire”) and Emily Blunt (“The Devil Wears Prada,” “The Adjustment Bureau”) star in Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Village Roadshow Pictures’ sci-fi thriller “Edge of Tomorrow,” under the direction of Doug Liman (“The Bourne Identity,” “Mr. & Mrs. Smith”).

The epic action of “Edge of Tomorrow” unfolds in a near future in which an alien race has hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, unbeatable by any military unit in the world.
Lt. Col. Bill Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously dropped into what amounts to a suicide mission. Killed within minutes, Cage now finds himself inexplicably thrown into a time loop—forcing him to live out the same brutal combat over and over, fighting and dying again…and again.

But with each battle, Cage becomes able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt). And, as Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy.
